Welcome Wrestling Coaches and Parents
The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) is pleased to announce the launching of the following four new innovative online coaching development courses uniquely designed to help increase the number of wrestlers, coaches, and wrestling teams primarily at the youth, middle school, and high school levels:
- Best Practices for Improving the Recruitment and Retention of Wrestlers (ages 6-12)
- Best Practices for Improving the Recruitment and Retention of Wrestlers (ages 13-18)
- Reducing Risk & Liability in Wrestling
- Safe Handling - Bloodborne Pathogens in Wrestling
While overall participation in high school wrestling has grown by 28,000 between 1998 and the launching of this course in 2008, there is a growing number of forfeits that are plaguing high school dual meets. This forfeit trend has been very frustrating to countless coaches across the nation and has adversely affected the “presentation” of our sport to the media and fans. The “Best Practices for Improving Recruitment and Retention of Wrestlers” courses are perfectly positioned to help coaches reverse this trend.
Further, the long term survival of wrestling and other Olympic sports in schools across America will be dependent on our ability to “sell” them as educational programs to administrators and school boards. In doing so, we have to make sure they are perceived to have minimal risk associated with them. Currently, wrestling has the second highest incidence of injury only behind football. The content in the “Reducing Risk & Liability in Wrestling” course will provide you with simple and practical concepts that will go a long way to safeguarding your wrestlers from unnecessary injury.
The content in these online courses represents a collection of information from many of the best experts in each subject area across the nation. We are confident you will find the course related content informative, practical, and presented in a very dynamic online format.
